Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of Health Education and Accreditation, this position assists, organizes, and coordinates all grant activities for the Ottawa County Health Department. This position is responsible for securing and managing grants to support population health. This position acts as a primary contact for grant activities in addition to program specific health education activities. The Grants Coordinator – Health Educator will also serve as a health educator for program specific content when applicable.
Essential Knowledge, Abilities and Skills, Education
- Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Community/Public Health Education, Health Education, Health Promotion, Public Administration, or other related degree;
- Three (3) years of experience in public health or related experience is preferred;
- Knowledge of the core functions and essential services of public health;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability to speak and prepare written material in a concise and effective manner;
- Ability to use and adapt to various computer software;
- Ability to maintain a high degree of organization, coordination and communication with attention to detail and accuracy;
- Grant writing experience is preferred;
- Ability to comply with state and agency policies and procedures;
- Must be physically able to perform all duties;
- Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance coverage.
Essential Functions of the Position
- Develops, implements, and evaluates health education programs.
- Collaborates with internal partners from various programs to record and track proposals, awards, and related statistical information of grant based activities.
- Assists Business Manager in organizing and maintaining reporting of grant deliverables.
- Collaborates with local agencies, schools, and applicable groups to plan and coordinated programs based on identified health priorities.
- Conducts community health education programs and services for targeted populations in various community settings.
- Prepares, directs, and implements marketing strategies.
- Prepares health education materials for a specific population.
- Assists in coordinating with the Community Health Assessment and the Community Health Improvement Plans
- Maintains resource library of pamphlets, programs, and educational materials.
- Represents the department at community functions and meetings, as assigned.
- Assist in the health department’s accreditation process.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Job Location
- Travel to off-site locations within Ottawa County and rarely out of county or state;
- Work a general schedule of 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM, although a flexible schedule may be required, including evening, weekend, and holidays;
- Work in office settings, in home environments, and outdoors.

- Any other necessary equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to load and unload vehicle with health education materials when needed;
Other Responsibilities
- Respond to public health emergencies as appropriate and/or directed by the Health Commissioner and/or Director of Health Education and Accreditation;
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement of individual, program, and organizational performance;
- Performs any and all other related duties as assigned or directed in order to promote, further, and ensure the effective and efficient operations of the Ottawa County Health Department;
- Contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategic plan.
