Application Period Open for Hazard Mitigation Grant Program Funds
Ohio EMA
Please consider this opportunity to apply for grant funds to implement some of the actions identified in your FEMA approved local hazard mitigation plan. The President declared a Major Disaster (FEMA‐4777‐DR) for the State of Ohio as the result of tornadoes and high winds affecting western and central Ohio counties this spring. As a result of the disaster declaration Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds are available statewide for eligible sub‐applicants to apply for projects that reduce risk to people and property from natural hazards and their effects. The deadline to submit HMGP pre‐applications to the Ohio EMA Mitigation Branch is January 21, 2025. The State Hazard Mitigation Team will meet in late January to prioritize HMGP pre‐applications. The highest ranking pre‐applications will be invited to develop full HMGP applications. A HMGP pre‐application form is attached. The current total projected HMGP funding available as the result of this disaster declaration is $902,570.53.
Ohio EMA Mitigation Branch staff will be conducting two webinars to discuss HMGP rules, deadlines, and answer any questions about the program. The HMGP webinar dates and times are attached to this email. The same presentation will be given on both webinar dates. Please note that the HMGP webinars are for local officials. Residents should NOT be invited to attend. If you cannot make either webinar offering, a recording will be posted to our website. It is up to each county EMA Director to distribute the HMGP webinar schedule to local officials in cities, villages, and township that may be interested in developing an HMGP application. Please send these webinar dates and pre‐application form to anyone in your county that may be interested in applying for the program.
