Planner 1

City of Solon

The Planning and Community Development Department has an opening for a Planner 1 position. The Planner 1 works under the direct supervision of the Director of Planning and Community Development and will perform the following activities: review of residential and commercial site plans and construction drawings for compliance with zoning code and subdivision code requirements; research and preparation of plans and reports relating to various planning and building issues; enforcement of property maintenance ordinances; answering questions of the general public relating to planning, zoning, and building issues; performing of GIS analysis and the preparation of maps utilizing ESRI ArcMap 10.7; guiding of applicants through the planning and building permit approval process; and providing other customary municipal planning functions, as required.

The successful candidate must have strong research, communication, computer and public interaction skills and a sound understanding of basic planning and land use regulation processes. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a four year accredited college or university in Urban and Regional Planning, Land Use Planning, Economic Development, Public Administration, or a closely related field, is required. AICP professional certification and previous experience in a public agency performing planning, site plan review, zoning enforcement, building permit issuance, construction management and/or economic development functions is preferred. The position is slotted at Grade F on the Solon Wage scale and will be compensated depending on relevant qualifications and experience.
