Assistant City Planner

The City of Centerville is now hiring for the full-time position of Assistant City Planner. The Assistant City Planner assists the City’s Planning and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) operations by providing outstanding customer service via the City’s Mission, Vision and Values. Position Responsibilities and Requirements: The Assistant City Planner will be involved in planning, development, economic development, and GIS projects throughout the City. Responsibilities will include the processing and administration of zoning permits, presenting to Planning Commission or Board of Architectural Review, writing reports, creating presentation graphics, participating in land use planning activities, and coordinating GIS projections and platforms at the City. Strong written and oral communication skills, and a commitment to the values and expectations of public service, are required. Candidates should possess strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with a desire to engage in and support the long-term direction of the City and department through progressive strategic planning and department goal setting and implementation that is responsive to the needs of the community. The candidate should also be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships, be able to exercise independent judgement and discretion, and resolve complaints by finding the best possible solution for all involved. The ideal candidate should have prior experience with city zoning code and land use regulations with design and planning principles, as well as prior experience or knowledge of ESRI’s GIS Platforms. Additional training opportunities available. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least three years of progressively responsible experience in City Planning, Local Government, GIS, or a related field; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Master’s Degree preferred. The pay range for this full-time position is $59,997 - $80,988, plus an excellent benefits package.
