SYNOPSIS OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) is seeking an individual with public transportation fixed route experience prepared to join a dynamic leadership team about to embark on agency-wide transformational change. Core departmental goals include short and long term service delivery and capital program planning, formula and competitive federal and state grant funding applications, Title VI and other regulatory areas. The desired candidate will be committed to collaborative and inter-departmental leadership, able to utilize technology to streamline workflow processes and promote an innovative work environment. TARTA is a public transit authority that provides fixed route, paratransit, vanpool and Call-A-Service mobility-in-demand services to Toledo, Ohio and the surrounding suburbs. The selected individual reports to the General Manager as the overall administrator of the Authority’s Scheduling and Planning function. Job duties: • Service scheduling and planning needs of the organization • Maintain Federal Transportation Administrative compliance in all activities associated with Planning and Scheduling • Participate in public meetings and hearings to explain planning proposals • Analyze data from geographic information systems and other associated databases. • Identify opportunities for improving service to the public • Collaborate with engineers to research, analyze, and resolve complex transportation design issues • Implement service improvements • Remain current on regulatory and funding requirements that assist with implementation • Creates schedule within the confines of the Union CBA and publishes • Facilitate projects for the planning team as directed • Interact with Scheduling/ Planning team, TARTA staff and outside organizations • Production of bus schedules using computerized software distribute appropriately • Work with marketing and other TARTA departments as necessary • Identify innovative and responsive methods to improve scheduling process • Work with teams to develop ideas to improve public transportation • Retain records/data and produce as necessary • Maintain constant communication with all departments on any changes All other duties as assigned; all job descriptions are subject to change Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred in Planning, Geography or related area of study • 10 years’ experience in professional planning position preferred • Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to transportation and commitment to continuous learning • Ability to work independently on projects • Ability to work well in teams with staff and contractors from all departments • Excellent written and oral communication • Advanced presentation skills • Excellent personal skills and positive attitude to create “buy-in” for changes • Intermediate knowledge of computer office applications
