We'll Walk in the Footsteps of Jesus During Lent
Lent is the 40 days before Easter (not counting Sundays) where we prepare our hearts, our minds, and our bodies for the glorious Resurrection. The counting officially begins with Ash Wednesday, although this year we are celebrating the day before, Shrove Tuesday, with a Pancake Supper (see announcements).
During the five Sundays in Lent and during Holy Week we will focus on the life and teachings of Jesus, looking at familiar stories with fresh eyes as we draw upon insights from history, archaeology, and the geography of the Holy Land. We will:
Travel to the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized and to the Judean wilderness where he was tempted.
Walk among the ruins of Capernaum where Jesus made his home during the three years of his public ministry.
Climb the mountain where Jesus may have given his most famous sermon.
Take a boat ride onto the Sea of Galilee.
Stop at Jacob’s Well where Jesus offered a Samaritan woman a drink of living water.
Recall the last week of Jesus’ life in the Old City of Jerusalem where those fateful events occurred.
May our lives be enriched and renewed as we walk in the very footsteps of Jesus during this season of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. Both Pastor Miran and Pastor Mike will be following the Lenten sermon outline found within this newsletter.
