Visit the Holy Land in Jan 2014
Have you ever wanted to walk in the footsteps of Jesus? And if you’ve been to the Holy Land, are you ready for another pilgrimage? It brings our faith full circle and you will never read scripture the same way again.
I have had it on my heart for over three years to help lead a trip to Israel and Palestine. I have been thinking about taking a year away from Belize and 2014 might be the right year. My friend Tom Boomershine, a retired New Testament scholar and founder of the Network of Biblical Storytellers, gave me the name of his favorite tour guide these days, Tracy Radosevic, a professor at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C. (where our own Michele Walton attends).
Tracy is available to lead a group the first week of January 2014 for a 10-day trip that we can put together ourselves. Unfortunately, to secure such a trip we would need to commit to going by the end of March. From flights to site visits, schedules need to be put into place long in advance.
Tracy is a spirited educator at heart who grew up in Canton. I found her recently leading a retreat with 100 women in the mountains of North Carolina. She is presently the Dean of the Academy for Biblical Storytellers and is also an adjunct professor at the Ecumenical Institute of Theology in Baltimore. We immediately hit it off and I would love to team with her.
Costs will probably be in the $3,000 range and would include round-trip international airfare, daily worship and provocative meditations, deluxe motor-coach transportation and singing on the bus, on-site biblical storytelling, daily breakfast and dinner, study aids and maps for journaling, interactions with local people, and first class hotels.
We would need 20-25 committed people to make this happen. Holy Land tour groups continue to report no problems with safety, and walking and doing steps are at each person’s own level. This will truly be a Bethel family experience and other tour groups are sure to be leaning in on ours for the biblical storytelling at each site.
Begin praying about going and be sure to see me with any questions. If we go, I promise you we will talk about this particular trip the rest of our lives. Detailed registration material will follow.
Looking forward to our Lenten journey together when I return from Belize,
