Feeding the Community

Food, Wellness, Prayer & Healing

For over a year our Disciples Sunday School class has led the way in providing a monthly free community dinner on the last Thursday. We have met many new friends from different walks of life, a beautiful answer to the question posed to Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” (Luke 10:29).

During the summer when it’s not raining we picnic outdoors. On June 27, one of our newest member, Celia Jevadi, resurrected our Wellness Ministry by adding another feature to the last Thursday of the month. On this last evening she had Jim Spurgeon do a water safety program that included a video from the Army Corps of Engineers and Bobba the Dog. Jim also presented the program later that night to the children of VBS.

Then to make that end-of-the-month time together a TRIPLE FEATURE, we moved our Healing and Prayer Service to that date. There is always special music (Freeman Griffin and his friend Michael last month), Holy Communion, a healing message, and now at the end of the service a time when prayer teams are available for individual prayer and anointing. We can truly bring our worries, troubles and hurts to the One who is the true physician and healer, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

What a beautiful monthly night together to live out our Bethel mission statement of “making disciples of Jesus Christ for the purpose of transforming the world!”

Here’s the schedule (the next one is on July 25):
5:00-6:30pm Free Community Dinner
6:30-6:50pm Wellness Ministry
