August is Habitat for Humanity Month at Bethel
Great news! The target date to begin new construction on the Worthington Partnership Habitat for Humanity home is August 20th. The new home will be located in Columbus at 1183 E. 15th Ave. The Worthington Partnership has pledged $25,000 to the project.
Last year, Bethel International contributed $1479.31 to help rehab the Bryant Family home at 3180 Valleywood Drive. On Sunday, August 25th, special envelopes will be available to donate directly to our Worthington Partnership home project at 1183 E. 15th Ave.
Habitat for Humanity MidOhio (HFHMO) is one of the only housing agencies in Franklin and Licking counties targeting families who earn 30-60% of median income. HFHMO families are chosen after a careful review process during which Habitat assesses their need for housing; their ability to repay a zero interest, no-profit mortgage; and their willingness to provide sweat equity. All families are first-time homebuyers who earn 30-60% of the median income and live in substandard housing. Every family must perform a minimum of 200 hours of sweat equity, which includes working on their own house and those of other Habitat families, and attending homeownership classes. Every family assumes a no-interest, no-profit mortgage with payments based on family income. HFHMO enables low income families to make the transition from substandard rental housing to affordable homeownership and at the same time revitalize older, low-income neighborhoods. A decent place to live creates stability, launching families into a promising cycle of progress and a better quality of life.
