CSCA 2018 Convention - Call for Submissions - Adjunct/Temporary Faculty Caucus

ADJUNCT/TEMPORARY FACULTY CAUCUS
Call for Panels

Central States Communication Association (CSCA)
Annual Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
April 4-7, 2018
Difference

The Adjunct/Temporary Faculty Caucus invites the submission of creative programs and interactive panels for the 2018 CSCA convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, April 4 – 7. The purpose of the caucus is to discuss and support the issues that are specific to Adjunct and Temporary Faculty in the academic world. Our caucus seeks to provide adjunct/temporary faculty with support, guidance, and training.

Panels: We welcome submissions from everyone with an interest in shaping the future and capitalizing on the talents of adjunct, part-time, and temporary faculty members. We encourage a wide range of formats and topics, especially those developed based on the convention theme of Difference. Specific issues of interest to our group include: piecing together a paycheck: working at several institutions; work-life balance and overloads; losing adjuncts due to HLC; disbanding administration beliefs that anyone can teach online; programs that highlight stellar adjuncts/temp faculty; resources for new adjunct/temp faculty; adjuncts and veteran teachers sharing teaching methods; diversity issues; mentoring issues for new hires or graduate students; orientation of new faculty; vita preparation; networking opportunities or a special program for adjuncts/temporary/part-timers. Short course submissions on any of these issues are also encouraged. Our caucus urges Department Chairs and Basic Course Directors to encourage and support submissions from their adjunct/part-time faculty members.

In terms of panels and papers, preferences will be given to those with panelists representing multiple institutions rather than representing a single institution.

Guidelines for Submission:

Panels: Discussion panel submissions must include the following: (a) title, (b) description (75 words or less), (c) rationale (75 words or less), and (d) a complete list of participants along with their institutional affiliations, contact information (address, e-mail, and telephone), and if they are CSCA Members. Submitters must use the Discussion Panel Form located on the CSCA website: www.csca-net.org under Convention > Call for Submissions.

All submissions must be sent as e-mail attachments using Microsoft Word format. Documents not sent in this format will be returned to the sender.  An e-mail acknowledging the receipt of the paper or panel submissions will be sent for each submission.

All media requests must be made at the time of submission. Please only request media if it is absolutely essential to your presentation, as media requests will be closely examined before approval. Laptop computers will not be made available for presentations. Your submission implies that you agree to follow appropriate presentation guidelines if your panel is accepted.

Submissions must be received by OCTOBER 9, 2017.
