CSCA 2019 Convention - Adjunct and Temporary Faculty Interest Group Call for Papers

Greetings fellow Adjunct and Temporary Faculty Interest Group Members! The summer heat is still hot, hot, hot, but before we cool down for fall semester, we need to put our thinking caps on and come together to generate and collaborate on some panels for the 2019 Central States Communication Conference Dialogue in Omaha, NE April 3rd-6th. Check out our Call for Submissions and consider reaching out to colleagues from multiple institutions, from graduate school, from a conference (perhaps CSCA last year?), from have work, etc. We would love to fill all of our panel slots with outstanding submissions. If you have any questions about our Call for Submissions or the Adjunct and Temporary Faculty Interest Group, please feel free to reach out.

Regards,

ADJUNCT AND TEMPORARY FACULTY INTEREST GROUP
Call for Panels

Central States Communication Association (CSCA)
Annual Convention in Omaha, NE
April 3-6, 2019
Dialogue

The Adjunct and Temporary Faculty Interest Group invites the submission of creative programs, and interactive panels for the 2019 CSCA convention in Omaha, Nebraska – April 3rd through 6th. The purpose of the caucus is to discuss and support the issues that are specific to Adjunct and Temporary Faculty in the academic world. Our caucus seeks to provide adjunct/temporary faculty with support, guidance, and training, which connects nicely with this year’s conference theme of Dialogue.

Panels: We welcome submissions from everyone with an interest in shaping the future and capitalizing on the talents of adjunct, part-time, and temporary faculty members. We encourage a wide range of formats and topics, especially those developed based on the convention theme of Dialogue. Specific issues of interest to our group include: piecing together a paycheck: working at several institutions; work-life balance and overloads; losing adjuncts due to HLC; disbanding administration beliefs that anyone can teach online; programs that highlight stellar adjuncts/temp faculty; resources for new adjunct/temp faculty; adjuncts and veteran teachers sharing teaching methods; diversity issues; mentoring issues for new hires or graduate students; orientation of new faculty; vita preparation; networking opportunities or a special program for adjuncts/temporary/part-timers. Short course submissions on any of these issues are also encouraged. Our caucus urges Department Chairs and Basic Course Directors to encourage and support submissions from their adjunct/part-time faculty members.

In terms of panels and papers, preferences will be given to those with panelists representing multiple institutions rather than representing a single institution.

Guidelines for Submission

Panels: Discussion panel submissions must include the following: (a) title, (b) description (75 words or less), (c) rationale (75 words or less), and (d) a complete list of participants along with their institutional affiliations, contact information (address, e-mail, and telephone), and if they are CSCA Members.

All submissions will be uploaded in the new online submission system available soon on the CSCA webpage.

All media requests must be made at the time of submission. Please only request media if it is absolutely essential to your presentation, as media requests will be closely examined before approval. Laptop computers will not be made available for presentations. Your submission implies that you agree to follow appropriate presentation guidelines if your panel is accepted.

Submissions must be received by Wednesday, October 10th at 11:59 pm CST.

CSCA will have a new online submission system this year. Details will be available on the CSCA website closer to the submission deadline. Check www.csca-net.org for details in late summer.
