Call for Competitive Papers and Panels plus Roundtable Discussions

2019 Annual Convention – Omaha, Nebraska

April 3-7, 2019

Theme: “Dialogue” 

The Popular Culture Interest Group invites the submission of competitive papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and innovative programming for the 2019 CSCA convention in Omaha, Nebraska. Popular Culture, as both a subject of expression AND research, is uniquely positioned to explore the conference theme of “Dialogue.” With this in mind, the interest group invites those competitive papers, panels, as well as roundtable discussions that explore this theme (or not) in the myriad of ways that (to quote Raymond Williams) the “mundane” can be explored, interrogated, and understood. 

Some things to keep in mind:

• All Submissions must be completed by Wednesday, October 10, 11:59 pm CST
• We are moving to an online submission process for 2019. Details for submission will be available on the CSCA website closer to the submission deadline
• If you are submitting a competitive complete paper, please be sure to denote if this is your “debut” paper at CSCA, particularly if you are a student.
• For panels, preference will be given to those panels that represent multiple institutions and/or organizations rather than a single unit.
• Awards are presented to the Top Faculty Paper and the Top Student Paper

Submissions Requirements:

Papers: Only completed papers will be accepted. You will submit the title, contact information, and abstract through the new online system. Graduate students should type “STUDENT” on the upper right-hand corner of the title page. If the paper will be a graduate student debut, please type “DEBUT STUDENT” on the upper right- hand corner of the title page. To be considered a graduate student debut paper, (1) the author must be a graduate student, (2) the paper must have single authorship, and (3) the paper must be the author’s first paper to be presented at CSCA. Indicate if author(s) are CSCA members. Author names and any identifying information must be removed prior to submission.

Panels: Please note that Panel submissions should include as much information as possible. For paper panels, well-considered abstracts will always help with review and ultimate consideration. For discussion panels, ensuring that the overall abstract details out the purpose of the panel and, when possible, the connection to the conference theme, will always help during the review.
