The Political Communication Interest Group invites submissions of competitive papers, thematic panel program proposals, and innovative programming alternatives (such as roundtables, symposia, debates, open forums, and community programs) for the 101st annual convention of the Eastern Communication Association.
The 101st annual meeting of the Eastern Communication Association will be held in Baltimore, Maryland at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore on the Inner Harbor from April 22-25, 2010. The theme of the convention is "Charting a Course: Meeting New Horizons." The theme encourages the submission of papers and panels that explore the future of the areas of scholarship that constitute the communication discipline.
The 2010 convention will feature Focus on the Future programming, short courses, poster sessions, roundtables, and panels. Proposals addressing the convention theme but not directly related to one of the interest group areas should be sent to Janie M. Harden Fritz, ECA First Vice-President.
In order to receive full consideration, all program/panel proposals and completed papers must be received by October 15, 2009 (see submission guidelines below).

Submissions of Completed Papers
Authors are invited to submit completed papers dealing with political communication from any theoretical, methodological, or critical perspective. Such submissions should include:
Program/Panel Proposals
Panel program proposals should focus on a unifying theme relevant to research, theory, or criticism in the area of political communication. Programs may consist of a chair, paper presenters, and a respondent; however, roundtable discussions, symposia, debates, performance venues, community programs, or other unique formats are encouraged. In alternative formats, respondents may be included or omitted as appropriate. These submissions should include:
Statement of Professional Responsibility
When submitting a paper or proposal for review, you MUST include the following statement. If it is not attached to a submitted document, the Program Planner will need to obtain a completed copy of this form before the paper/program/panel is officially programmed for presentation at the conference.
In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/we recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/we agree to present this panel or paper if it is accepted and programmed. I/we further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA's annual meeting must register and pay required fees.
Equipment requests
Equipment rental at conventions is VERY expensive, and ECA has a limited budget. Please try to structure your presentations in such a way that equipment is not needed.
