ECA Membership Meeting - 3/11/2020

We thank the two presenters: Gene Kent, INTECH Director and Jessica Newbold Hoselton, IMSCA Director for their assistance with the session!

ECA Membership Meeting

The Electrical Contractors' Association of City of Chicago (ECA) held its March Membership meeting on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Gene & Georgetti's in Rosemont, IL.  The program featured two guest presenters:  Jessica Newbold Hoselton, Illinois Mechancial & Specialty Contractors Association (IMSCA) and Gene Kent, IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (INTECH) Director.   

Listed below are a few highlights of their discussions:

IMSCA
Jessica Newbold Hoselton, Illinois Mechanical and Specialty Contractors Association (IMSCA) Director reviewed a number of bills in the Illinois General Assembly that IMSCA was monitoring.  A number of the bills included the following:  SB3427 “Mechanics’ Lien Act – Claims and Notice” - lien notice language; SB3496 “Mechanics’ Lien Completion Time” - sunset provision(s) of Mechanic’s Lien Act; SB2975 “EPA - Ground Water Monitoring;" SB3185 “Finance – Single Prime Procurement” – CDB; HB2838 “Wage Payment – Direct Contractor."  She briefly discussed a number of legislative issues, including the following:  she suggested that employers visit the Illinois Department of Human Rights website for updates into the Sexual Harassment Training Requirements for Illinois. Also, the IMSCA raffle remains active. 

INTECH
Gene Kent, IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (INTECH) Director submitted a packet of information concerning  a variety of topics including the following:  the semi-truck that Powering Chicago recently purchased is to showcase the educational and training opportunities in the industry; the “A” apprentice registration will occur twice a year and the “C” apprentice registration was to begin soon.  Mr. Kent also discussed a number of issues concerning INTECH, which includes the following:  apprentice selection process, aptitude testing, importance of a recommendation letter for potential apprentices, Trainee program, requests for apprentices, apprentice lay-off procedure, continuing education opportunities, apprentice review notices and evaluations, among other areas. 

They were both met with a round of applause at the conclusion of their presentations.
