The Chicago & Cook County Chapter, NECA Safety Committee and the Northeastern Illinois Chapter, NECA Safety Committee jointly sponsored a complimentary morning Safety Forum that was held on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the IBEW Local 701 Hall in Warrenville, Illinois.  The half-day session called, "Excavation Hazards in Construction" was a safety training program designed to educate workers about the risks and liabilities associated with trench-related work. Participants learned to identify potential hazards and avoid unsafe conditions when operating in and near an excavation site.  The session was conducted by Paul Satti, Construction Safety Council Instructor.

Training topics include:

  • OSHA trenching and excavation safety standards (29 CFR 1926 Subpart P)
  • Definition and responsibilities of a Competent Person
  • Material and equipment inspections
  • Installation and removal of shoring systems
  • Soil testing in the field

We thank the ECA Safety Committee, the Northeastern Illinois Chapter, NECA and the Chicagoland Safety Council (CSC) for coordinating this important program.  The next Safety Forum is anticipated for Spring 2021.
