Project Scheduling:
Marty Rogers, Candor Electric, Inc.
The Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA) / the Chicago & Cook County Chapter, NECA wishes to thank Marty Rogers, Candor Electric, Inc. for his special presentation concerning Project Scheduling that he gave to the NECA-IIT Student Chapter on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Mr. Marty Rogers primarily discussed several topics, which included the following areas:
- A basic electrical schedule consists of several aspects, including: power, communications, testing, commissioning, fire alarm, etc.
- The electrical portion of a project is usually installed toward the end of the process.
- Initial start date / notification of project being awarded / end date needs to be established per the contractual agreement.
- A Gant Chart is created to indicate all time-frames for all project areas – ie. procurement process outline, construction activities and project milestones, labor, etc.

The Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA) / the Chicago & Cook County Chapter, NECA wishes to thank Greg Rampala, Gibson Electric An Emcor Company, Rene Garcia, Chicago Fire Detection Systems, and Alex Schick, Honeywell Enterprise Fire for their special presentation concerning – Fire Alarm Systems that they gave to the NECA-IIT Student Chapter on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
The overall discussion included several topics, which involved the following areas:
- The electrical contractor needs to be aware of what system is planned to be utilized to ensure that the correct manufacturer is used.
- The preliminary layout for a fire alarm system is reviewed for strobe, HVAC, sprinkling systems, etc.
- The contractor must be aware of all the Codes, as they are updated, often.
- The shop drawing is created from the preliminary layout and once approved is sent to the Fire Department for review.
- A basic breakdown of a fire alarm system was discussed.
As you’re aware, the NECA - IIT Student Chapter is participating in the 2025 Electrical Contracting Innovation Challenge (ECIC) sponsored by NECA and ELECTRI International. Teams are advised to emphasize detailed technical solutions for the proposed systems.
