Women lose $61,000 in an identity theft scam pattern: NYPD

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Police are searching for an individual they claim stole thousands of dollars from two New York City women in April.

On separate occasions, the suspect contacted the victims and told them their identity had been stolen and that the money would be used to help apprehend the suspect, according to the NYPD.

The first incident happened at around 4 p.m. on April 22. A 73-year-old woman on Staten Island told police an unknown individual took a large amount of money after making a false promise. Police said the victim lost $25,000.
