Man charged with identity theft after lost ID used to buy car from Lincoln dealership

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A man lost his ID, and another man stole his identity to buy a car from a Lincoln dealership, police say.

Lincoln Police arrested 26-year-old Dekarlos Haynes at a local probation office on Wednesday. He’s charged with one count of identity theft.

A 26-year-old man called police to report an identity theft on May 8, an arrest affidavit shows. He told officers that after he lost his ID, an unknown person used his name, date of birth and social security number to get a car loan.

The loan was used to purchase a black 2017 Jaguar XE Sedan for $14,900 from a dealership near 17th and M streets. The purchase took place on April 15.
