Hartland man sentenced to prison for identity theft that led to victim being jailed

The man who stole the identity of another man and had been living a life under a fake name in Hartland has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison.
Matthew David Keirans, 59, had been living in Hartland for at least the last 15 years but was using the name William Donald Woods. Keirans stole Woods' name and Social Security number when the two worked together at a hot dog cart in Albuquerque, New Mexico, 37 years ago.
According to prosecutors, Keirans used Woods' name for insurance, loans, credit and driver's licenses. He even paid taxes in the false name.
