Two-time Tampa bank robber arrested after mom turns him in, police say
WFLA.com
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested on Thursday for attempting to rob a bank after his mother called police to turn him in, authorities said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported that at 1:10 p.m., the suspect, 33-year-old Aaron Spencer, entered the Truist Bank on Memorial Highway and demanded money from the teller by implying that he had a pistol.
According to the sheriff’s office, Spencer then fled the scene on foot and discarded his clothing in a parking lot nearby.
At 4:39 p.m., later that same day, a woman called HCSO’s 911 Communication Center saying that her son had just robbed a bank and she was on her way to the District III office to turn him in.
Detectives recovered the stolen money and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested Spencer. He was charged with robbery with a firearm while wearing a mask.
