Introducing the New Corresponding Secretary
Olga F. Jarrín Montaner, PhD, RN, FAAN is a tenured associate professor in the School of Nursing at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (USA). From 2001-2010, Olga worked as a home health aide, home health nurse intern, visiting nurse/case manager, and clinical instructor in home health care while completing her nursing education (BS, MS, PhD) at the University of Connecticut. She then completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania in gerontological nursing and nursing outcomes research.
Olga presented her postdoctoral research1,2 on the relationship between home health agency work environments and outcomes for nurses and patients at the 2013 IHCNO Inaugural Conference held in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. This work was cited in the International Council of Nurses (ICN) 2020 International Nurses Day Report.
Olga worked with Dr. Elizabeth Madigan on the IHCNO’s first study to outline a global agenda for the future of home care3 that was presented at the IHCNO 2015 conference in Chicago, Illinois, USA (presenting author: Fatemah Pouladi), the 2015 Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Research Congress in San Juan, Puerto Rico (presenting author: Olga Jarrín) and the 2016 WHO Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery Conference in Glasgow, Scotland (presenting author: Elizabeth Madigan).
More recently, Olga’s home care-related research has focused on issues of equity and access to care,4-7 and demonstrating the value and impact of home health care on later end-of-life care outcomes, including use of home hospice.8-10
