Saturday Program: Superhighway to Health: The Gut-Brain Axis in Health and Disease

The gut-brain axis is one of the most hotly debated topics in Functional Nutrition today. Research surrounding this bidirectional pathway has had significant growth recently in the areas of incidence, assessment, and recovery. While the most effective protocols are still under discussion, we now know enough to make concrete recommendations for improving patient health.

Topics of discussion include the importance of identifying roadblocks on the gut-brain superhighway, utilizing clinically relevant testing and supplements to quickly correct patient problems, and the importance of quality supplements.

Goals and Objectives

  • Understand the human microbiome’s effect on health and disease
  • Expertly assess intestinal and blood brain barrier dysfunctions
  • Identify modern lifestyle and environmental triggers that affect the gut-brain axis
  • Repair essential barriers when they are broken
  • Improve body composition and reduce obesity
  • Properly assess the gut and brain for better management of chronic disorders
  • Integrate nutritional protocol for concussions
  • Utilize proper concussion rehabilitation methods
  • Connect gut/immune system to brain for better management of concussions
