Important Auto No-Fault Bill Has Been Referred to Senate Insurance and Banking Committee – Contact Your State Senator TODAY!

On December 10, 2019, House Bill 4449 – bipartisan, MAC-developed legislation designed to level the playing field for chiropractic patients in Michigan’s auto no-fault statute – passed the House of Representatives by an overwhelming 102-5 vote. HB 4449 has been referred to the Senate’s Insurance and Banking Committee, chaired by state Senator Lana Theis (R-Brighton), for consideration.

If we are going to move HB 4449 out of the Insurance and Banking Committee to the full Michigan Senate for a vote, we will need to mount a strong and sustained grassroots campaign – beginning now!

Thank You!

Despite opposition from the insurance industry, the bill passed the House resoundingly. To everyone who contacted your state representative regarding HB 4449, thank you! Your voices were heard loud and clear in Lansing! This is a great victory, and your efforts were a major factor in making it happen. However, we still need your – and your patients’ – help to make passage of this critical legislation a reality!

About House Bill 4449

HB 4449 is a common-sense bill that eliminates the ability of auto no-fault insurers to refuse to reimburse licensed chiropractic physicians for lawfully delivered services that they already cover and reimburse to other providers. This inequity forces patients to pay out of pocket, go without the needed service, or seek riskier and more expensive care, often including dangerous drugs and/or surgical intervention.

What’s Next? Insurance and Banking Committee

Now that the bill is before the Senate’s Insurance and Banking Committee, the MAC Government Relations Committee, chaired by Dr. R. James Gregg of Garden City, in conjunction with our lobbyists at Public Affairs Associates, is working hard to educate members on the importance of this bill. This strategy involves every chiropractor in the state, their families, and their patients to contact their state senator.

Stay tuned to your emails for updates and resources you can use to get your patients involved!
