A multimodal transportation system that includes all modes - walking, biking, buses and light rail - is integral to any thriving metro area. Regional systems beyond highways must be part of the equation, and Detroit has come a long way toward rebuilding since the streetcar system was dismantled in the middle of the last century. Learn about progress along with a new vision for a connected region starting in the city of Detroit.
We will begin at the historic Guardian Building - home to the Detroit Transportation Corporation's offices - with a light breakfast, training and lunch. After lunch, we will travel on the People Mover to the Rosa Parks Transit Center to learn about the evolution of DDOT and the vision for a future collaborative transit system. Crossing back for a quick tour of the DPM control center, the group will take a brisk walk to the Grand Circus Park area.
We will use the QLINE to travel to Midtown to learn strategic efforts to unite the diverse neighborhoods through transit and planning initiatives.
