Michigan House of Representatives Fails to Pass Oral Parity Bill

Legislators Fail to Protect Cancer Patients

For the third session in a row, the Michigan House of Representatives has failed to protect cancer patients. The Cancer Treatment Fairness Act, SB625, which passed the Michigan Senate on a 36-1 vote in May, was not voted on by the House Insurance Committee, chaired by Tom Leonard (R-93 District).

Michigan's failure to ensure Oral Anticancer treatments are covered in the same manner as IV Anticancer treatments leaves our resident's at risk. We are now one of only eight states in the country that fails to require health insurance providers to cover oral and IV agents in the same manner.

MSHO would like to thank Senator Goeff Hansen (R-34 District) for his sponsorship of SB625 and his tireless efforts to move the bill through the House of Representatives. We encourage him to introduce the same legislation when the 99th Michigan Legislature convenes in 2017.
