A number of bills enacted last year to address Michigan’s opioid crisis have recently taken or will soon take effect. These bills would, among other things, require prescribers to register for and utilize MAPS, provide substance use disorder treatment information in certain circumstances, provide information about disposal of controlled substances and to be engaged in a bona fide prescriber-patient relationship. The Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs has published a summary of these new opioid laws and a set of Frequently Asked Questions, with the department’s responses, about them. The publication is available here.
