Institute Advisory Council

The Hose Safety Institute Advisory Council provides important guidance, input, review and focus in support of the Institute’s goals, which include: 

• Promote and maintain the NAHAD Hose Assembly Guidelines
• Identify emerging issues and critical applications related to hose assemblies;
• Serve as a forum for addressing industry issues, providing appropriate input to the NAHAD Standards Committee and ensure ongoing industry dialogue and communications; 
• Provide educational resources and tools to Institute Members and to end-users who support hose assembly quality, safety and reliability; and,
• Identify and engage industry organizations and related agencies involved in, or impacting, hose safety, quality and reliability.

Hose Safety Institute Advisory Council Membership is afforded to invited end-users and professionals who have particular expertise, experience in, and/or a broad range of perspectives regarding hose safety. Council members provide evaluation, review and feedback regarding the Hose Assembly Guidelines, as well as addressing key issues, emerging technologies and/or processes related to hose assembly safety, quality and reliability.

Council members are drawn from hose assembly end-users, academia, industry, standards/regulatory bodies, related associations or industry groups and government agencies. Participation on the Council is by invitation from NAHAD, with individuals selected based on one or more of the following criteria:

• Professional expertise in industrial safety, engineering or industrial technologies
• Commitment to hose assembly safety, quality and reliability
• Technical skills related to industrial hose applications serving various markets
• Key leader of a standards-setting, academic, regulatory or industry organization

Advisory Council Members:

Jeffrey Andrasik – Product Testing Operations Manager, Smithers Rapra

Jeff joined Smithers Rapra in 2002.  He has worked on a variety of test programs including pressure, vibration, and temperature specifications on automotive, industrial, aerospace, nuclear, and consumer products. He has his BS in Mechanical Polymer Engineering from the University of Akron.

Smithers Rapra is the global leader in rubber, plastics, polymer and composites testing focused mainly on the tire, industrial, transportation, consumer and medical industries.  

Jo Marie Diamond - President & CEO, East County Economic Development Council

Jo Marie manages the ECEDC, an alliance of key representatives from business, industry, community, government, and education working together to promote successful business activity in San Diego’s eastern sub-region.  She leads a current pilot project investigating the development of a DLA market intelligence capability to align solicitations more closely to the natural way industry does business.

Jo Marie has 30 years of experience in providing technology and industry forecasting, industry research and analysis.  Prior to joining the ECEDC, she was a principal with Business Change Catalysts (BC²), a technology assessment and systems analysis consulting firm.

Jeff Rosser - Corporate Director, Hecla Mining

Jeff is an enterprising strategic leader with extensive experience in managing all aspects of mine operations (mining, maintenance,planning) and site-wide business improvement programs.  In his previous role at Barrick Goldstrike Mines, Jeff was responsible for working with stakeholders to encourage safe work behaviors and ensure healthy work environments. His other experience includes serving as Superintendent, Open Pit Mine Maintenance, where he was responsible for leading his department to provide reliable equipment to meet the direct and indirect demands of a 140 million ton per year mining operation.  

James Dean Vogel, P.E. - Founder & Director, The BioProcess Institute

 James  has more than 35 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries including expertise in facility design, operations management, fit-for-use testing, performance and exposure testing, bioprocess engineering and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. He formerly served as Director of The University of Rhode Island's College of Pharmacy's GMP facility and as the leader of its Introduction to Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing program.  Jim’s consulting expertise lies in all areas and all levels of engineering, management, cGMP, and single-use applications. 

Ken Wyatt - Compliance Manager, Tennessee Valley Authority

Ken serves as Manager of Compliance Services Methods and Processes where he oversees business planning, procedure development, the Corrective Action Plan, crane inspections, heavy duty equipment certifications and environmental and safety protocol  Ken also manages the annual employee training program.  

Established in 1933 by the United States Congress, Tennessee Valley Authority is the nation’s largest public power provider and a wholly owned federal corporation of the United States. TVA’s ESS group manages and maintains an average fleet size of 4,000 utility and construction equipment pieces ranging from small forklifts up to 1,000 ton cranes, serving the regional area.  

Rick Pitman - Sr. Vice President, EHST at HydroChemPSC

Rick has more than 20 years experience in the environmental, health, safety and transportation field for Industrial Services companies serving the PetroChemical, Refining, Oil and Gas, Pulp and Paper, Utilities and Power Industries. He has experience at developing and implementing Best In Class EHST systems across an organization as well as a 360° supply chain. Rick is an author of numerous safety related articles and studies including current emphasis on Hydroblast Hose Life Cycle and Failure Analysis.  He is the inventor or co-Inventor of multiple patent pending Mechanical Integrity and Craft Certification programs.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in Council meetings / conference calls as scheduled (Note: for face to face meetings, costs of hotel and group meals are borne by NAHAD; air and travel expenses are borne by each Council member)
• Offer suggestions, ideas, comment on topics that come before the Council or as requested by the NAHAD Standards Committee
• Solicit input/feedback from their organizations on selected topics as needed

Term:           1 year, renewable annually

• What updates to the Guidelines or processes are important to customers and regulatory bodies

Council members agree, in writing, to abide by these NAHAD Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest policies.

Advisory Council Applications may be submitted at any time for the review and consideration of the Standards Committee.

NAHAD’s Standards Committee will oversee and coordinate activities of the Advisory Council in conjunction with the various Standards Committee sub-committees and hose group technical teams.The Vice-Chair of the NAHAD Standards Committee serves as the Chair of the Advisory Council.  The NAHAD Standards Program Director serves as the Staff Director of the Hose Safety Institute and the Advisory Council.
