Congratulations to NANT RVP, Shelba Jones, on 40 Years in Dialysis
“Forty years working in dialysis is truly a milestone”, as stated by the RVP Ishan Patel. I attest to his comment greatly. Dialysis treatments have come a long way since 1984 when I first started. There have been vast improvements in the technology and overall care we bring to the patients. My dedication throughout the years has always been to cultivate and improve the quality of all patients. I continue to share my knowledge with my patients regarding their treatments, home therapy options, transplants, and overall well-being.
"My journey has continued through the time capsule. I have been a part of greatness at Fresenius Kidney Care. First, I want to acknowledge how I was selected to be a part of the Northeast Patient Care Technician Advisory Council. This council provides valuable information for dialysis technicians. We are the voices for the staff that work in the clinics, and we serve as a bridge between them and senior leaders such as Charlene Troncelliti, Michael Lindsey, Sylvia A. Carter, Tiffany Hightower, and Jeanne Carter.
In 2022 I was selected as the Care Award Recipient for Patient Growth and Fresenius Kidney Care rolled out the “red carpet” for all recipients. We were chosen to go to Las Vegas as part of the NANT (National Association of Nephrology Technicians/Technologists) annual conference. This is a place where technicians can connect and collaborate with senior leadership.
I need to thank Barbra Ellwood for allowing me to participate in the quarterly newsletter which provides great information on different topics for all staff working in a dialysis setting.
In addition to being part of the Fresenius Kidney Care PCT advisory council, I’m also the Northeast Vice President of NANT. It’s truly inspiring because I get to share my knowledge and expertise with other technicians. This is a great platform to engage with other dialysis technicians, accumulate contact hours for recertification and help technicians move up on their individual career ladders. I especially want acknowledge Fran Rickenbach, CAE, IOM Executive Director of NANT in her leadership and dedication to the organization.
I continue to show great love and appreciation for home dialysis in large thanks to the great team at Freedom Center of Queens including the staff and patients. I provide the best patient care possible.
Forty years in my back pocket and I would not change anything about my journey especially working at Queens Artificial Kidney Center, (QAKC) my journey started 36 yrs. ago the learning and the quality-of-care patient received transition me to a diverse patient care professional. I plan to keep that mile's stone rolling and continue to learn and grow in this field to the best of my abilities."
