DaVita Clinical Technician Jessica Jenson Shares her Thoughts about DTX42
I began my journey in dialysis as a care partner for my grandfather. Sitting beside him, learning his treatments, and seeing the impact of quality care first-hand sparked something deep within me. It didn’t just set me on a career path — it set me on a mission. That experience taught me that dialysis isn’t just about machines and lab values. It’s about people. It’s about presence. It’s about showing up for someone in their most vulnerable moments.
Today, as a nephrology technician, I care for every patient as if they were my own grandfather in that chair. My why? It’s personal. It’s powerful. And it’s rooted in love. I don’t just provide care — I bring connection, compassion, and soul. My superpower is making people smile even on the days I don’t feel like smiling. I hear what isn’t said, and I feel what others carry, often without needing words. I may present with a strong, resilient exterior, but I carry a softness that allows me to deeply empathize — sometimes to the point of breaking.
And I don’t do this alone. I’m surrounded by an incredible team — people who care deeply, work hard, and lift each other up. Together, we create a space where patients feel safe, supported, and cared for — not just medically, but emotionally and spiritually too.
This week, at the NANT conference, I found others like me — people whose hearts beat in rhythm with purpose. I listened to some of the most inspiring voices in our field, each one sharing stories of triumph, struggle, and resilience. It was a reminder that our work matters — and that our presence makes a difference.
Being awarded a scholarship to attend this conference was an incredible honor. It’s not just an award — it’s a recognition of the heart I put into this work. I’m walking away with new knowledge, fresh energy, and yes — some homework. But I can’t wait to get started. This is just the beginning.
