News & Happenings |
The Washington State Safer Products legislation (SB5369) originally intended to restrict the sale of consumer products containing chlorine-based pigments (including printing inks). This legislation would have severely limited the inks that could be sold in the state. This legislation was the subject of significant industry comment and lobbying efforts aimed at changing the language in the bill. Ultimately SB5369 was changed by its authors to remove the sale restrictions and replace them with a directive to the WA State Department of Ecology to petition Federal EPA to change the TSCA imposed polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) limits.

Occupational illness and injuries are a vital metric in measuring industry safety performance. In May 2023 NAPIM conducted an illness/injury survey (accident rates and injury types) of its member companies. NAPIM also partnered with EuPIA, the European Printing Ink Association to share similar information from their member companies. NAPIM’s EHS Committee will be analyzing the 2022 data and providing recommendations for reducing the types of injuries reported in the survey.
