Foreign trade continues to show relatively steep declines in both imports and exports of printing inks. Year on year through April 2023 printing ink exports are down 23.5%. Printing ink imports are down 17%. Detailed is available here

Natural gas costs across the country have shown 6% decrease year on year through April 2023 although still 13% higher than the same period in 2021. Electricity costs are down nearly 3% year on year through April 2023 although nearly 14% higher than the same period in 2021.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics printing ink prices are up 4.5% year on year through May 2023. Synthetic pigments and dyes are up nearly 9% for the same period.

The NAPIM Safety Committee is meeting this month to review the survey data and develop recommendations for reducing the types of injuries and illnesses reported. The National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM) is accepting papers for its Lawter Lecture Series to be held during the 67th Annual Fall Technical Conference. Submissions are open for topics related to chemistry, formulation, manufacturing, or other technical aspects of the printing ink business; all papers must be original and of scientific value.
Title, abstract, and author(s)’ name must be submitted by July 14, 2023, with the final paper for review and balloting due on August 7, 2023. The NAPIM Technical Board of Directors will select winners and award three honorariums. NAPIM will notify all lecture competition participants no later than August 14, 2023. Winners will be announced formally during the conference.
