Regulatory Update: Hazard Communication for Ink ManufacturersPrinting inks, like all chemical compounds, must be properly managed to ensure the protection of human health, property, and the environment. The storage, usage, and disposal of many of the chemical compounds used in printing inks are regulated through federal and state agencies as well as local authorities. NAPIM’s Regulatory Director, George Fuchs, Recently Spoke During the Food Safety Alliance for Packaging's Annual MeetingThis event provided a unique, in-depth, discussion-based forum for food packaging professionals to collaborate on safety and regulatory challenges. From regulatory updates to the latest in sustainable packaging, PFAS regulations, and microplastics, this meeting offers a chance to hear directly from experts on pressing industry topics. George joined Greg Pace, Munzing; Raj Sharma, Georgia Pacific; and Mitch Cheeseman, Cheeseman Regulatory Consulting for an informative panel discussion. Read more NAPIM’s First-Ever Combined Annual Convention/Technical Conference a Strong SuccessFrom September 30 – October 4, NAPIM held its Annual Convention/Technical Conference collocated for the first time in the association’s 108-year history. In total, almost 200 attendees participated in the event, which allowed registrants to pick what portion they wanted to attend – the first half that was the Annual Convention, the second half, which consisted of the Technical Conference, or the full weeklong affair. One of the most significant changes to the collocated event was the opportunity to host a joint Awards gala. In years past, NAPIM has hosted an Annual Awards Gala in the spring, and a Technical Awards event in the fall. This year, both award shows were combined into one, to provide a larger audience representing the industry’s best and the brightest. Data from the U.S. Bureau of Census - Trade Data shows February 2023 – February 2024 printing ink import, and export data shows printing ink exports even (~1%) and printing ink imports up (18%) year on year.
