CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS

 Guest Editors

James L. Moore III, The Ohio State University and Erik M. Hines, George Mason University

Cdq CoverThe Career Development Quarterly (CDQ) is the premier, peer-reviewed journal in career counseling, development, work, leisure, career education, and coaching and management. It is also the official journal of the National Career Development Association, a division of the American Counseling Association.

In collaboration with its editorial leadership team, the guest editors, Drs. James L. Moore III and Erik M. Hines, issue a call for manuscripts, focusing on Black men and boys and their career development, career education, career counseling and coaching, and/or workforce development.

More specifically, the guest editors welcome manuscript submissions – theoretical, empirical (i.e., quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods), and practitioner-focused – that have implications for enhancing short- and long-term career development, career education, career counseling and coaching, and/or workforce development outcomes for Black men and boys.

Stated differently, this special issue, across a variety of contexts, settings, and lifespans, aims to garner greater understanding of the career development experiences and needs of Black men and boys, as well as greater awareness of the grand challenges they commonly endure in society and how their societal experiences in formal and informal learning settings and/or workplace contexts may impede their career development trajectories.

All manuscript submissions should be limited to 30 pages, including references and tables. Manuscript submissions – focused on the following topics – will be strongly encouraged:

  1. Career development innovative models, frameworks, and/or programs designed for Black men and boys at the elementary, secondary, and postsecondary level;
  2. Vocational exploration activities with strong efficacy in bridging school engagement, academic achievement, and career preparation among Black men and boys;
  3. Career development needs of Black men and boys who participate in advanced STEM and non-STEM academic programs, curricular, and coursework;
  4. Career and workforce development programing needs, experiences, and outcomes among Black men and boys enrolled in career and technical education programs, K-12 career academies, or enrolled certificate programs at the community college level;
  5. Professional development needs of school counselors, career coaches, and/or other professionals working with Black men and boys; and
  6. Artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies as effective modalities in delivering career services and programming for Black men and boys; and
  7. Career-centered reentry programs with micro-credentials, certificates, and/or skills training to prepare Black men and boys for the workforce.
