ACDA Drive-In Conference Session Descriptions:

Keynote Speaker Session—David DeLong--David DeLong, is an author, speaker, consultant, and widely-recognized expert on closing the skills gap. He will be discussing material from his most recent book, Graduate to a Great Job: Make Your College Degree Pay Off in Today’s Market, as well as essential strategies and information related to assisting individuals with career development needs throughout the lifespan. He will include information about the “passion hoax,” as well as address real-life scenarios through interviewing recent ASU graduates about their job search experiences. Attendees will develop an understanding about the key job search/college major choice issues faced by college students today as well as strategies to implement when assisting with career decision-making.

LinkedIn “Tune-Up” Session—Jennifer Rhodes, ASU Career Advisor--Have a LinkedIn profile but allowed it run out of “battery power?” Attend this session about how to “recharge” your online presence and tap into the full potential of LinkedIn—both as a networking tool and as a means to obtain advice about topics within your profession! Information shared may also be utilized to assist clients/students with promoting their own professional brand.

What is Your Hire Score”—Karen Kowal, ASU Career Advisor—Engineering Career Services-- What is your “Hire Score” is a simple assessment given to college students, used to inform them of what they need to do to obtain a job before graduation.  It is a self-score tool, written using their terms and is to the point about what employers look for.   For this session the “Hire Score” assessment has been modified for assessing your readiness to get a new job.  See if you have what it takes (at least on paper) to advance your career and learn how the tool is currently used with students at a college level.   Also, learn about a few trends in resume writing such as using a summary or profile in place of an objective and how to reference a portfolio on a resume.

Managing Change as a Career Services Professional”—Julie Binter, ASU Human Resources-- Although change happens all the time, we don’t typically stop to think about how we approach it, respond to it and manage its impact on our personal and professional success. If you find that change is stressing you out, or has become a big hurdle for others in your life, this workshop will help you understand why and introduce you to a different approach that you can apply to just about any change you encounter.
