Elise: Several years ago my career center coordinated a semesterly job search group for graduating students. The group was facilitated by a licensed counselor. The staff members was also certified in the 5 o'clock club job search methodology and used that as a framework. The challenges included: getting students to commit to multiple sessions, helping students with barriers to employment, and also addressing mental health concerns (stress, anxiety, etc.). The best practices included requiring the students to purchase a few books to go with the curriculum - more of a guarantee for participation, using a program that has proven success with helping professional land interviews, and tracking student success.
