House of Delegates Wrap-up

The NYSPMA House of Delegates concluded last Sunday in Cooperstown. Fifty one delegates from 13 divisions took part in three days of meetings, elections, policy decisions and plenty of comradery.

Elections

The delegation elected four members to the Board of Trustees and 10 members to the APMA 2017 House of Delegates. James Hanna (Western) and Nicholas D’Angelo (Kings) were re-elected to three year terms.  Nicholas Argerakis (New York) was elected to a three year term and Emilio Goez (Bronx) to a one-year term.

In the APMA House of Delegates race, seven were selected as full delegates and three as funded alternates. The seven delegates joining the five members of the Executive Committee as full delegates are (in alpha order): Richard Altwerger (Northeastern), Maria Branca (Tappan Zee), Michael Conway (Nassau), Donald Feldman (Tappan Zee), James Hanna (Western), Charles Lombardi (Queens) and Vito Rizzo (Suffolk). The three funded alternates (in alpha order): Nicholas Argerakis (New York), Barry Block (New York) and Roy DeFrancis (Western).

Policy Decisions

Guild Assessment: The House disapproved by a 2/3 majority the 2016-2017 fiscal year Guild Assessment of $150 and voted by a 2/3 majority to disassociate from the OPEIU.

Special Assessment: The House approved by 2/3 majority Resolution 2016-15 authorizing a special dues assessment of $150, effective for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. The assessment will be used for a public and population health advocacy support fund to include the development of a task force to outline areas of podiatric inclusion and integration into New York State health initiatives and to assist with a deeper commitment and financial investment in patient advocacy groups.

Educational Assessment: The House approved by a 2/3 majority to continue the $111 Educational Assessment for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

Operating Budget 2016-2017: The House approved the 2016-2017 operating budget.

Bylaw Amendment: The House approved bylaw amendments 2016-01 and 2016-02

General Resolutions: The House approved 10 resolutions
