Public Health Emergency and CPT 99072

PLEASE CLARIFY IF NYS IS INDEED IN A PUBLIC STATE OF EMERGENCY AT THIS TIME, IF SO ARE ALL COUNTIES IN NY AND WHAT ARE THE DATES. THIS IS FOR THE BILLING OF 99072

New York (and the entire United States) is still in a state of emergency, and the billing of CPT code 99072 is valid on claims for billing for additional supplies, materials, and staff time due to precautions related to COVID. This code has been valid since September 8th and will remain valid as long as the department of Health and Human Services certifies that the US is still in a public health emergency.

A renewal was put into place on October 23rd to extend the declaration 90 days until January 22, 2021. This CPT code can be billed until that date, when the HHS should be communicating if there will be an extension on the emergency declaration depending on the progress of mitigation of the virus.
