Correct Coding for Plantar Fibroma Injection

How to appropriately code for plantar fibroma injections. Do you code the regular PF injection (20550) OR do you use injection of lesions (11900)

CPT 11900 would be the more appropriate CPT code for an injection of a plantar fibroma. Since the fibroma is a lesion is typically on the border of the plantar fascia and this would be the site of the injection, this would be a more accurate treatment code for the service. CPT 20550 is more appropriate if the plantar fascia is being injected, since that would represent a muscle structure/group within the definition, but since the fibroma is not on the plantar fascia itself, it would not be acceptable to use that injection code. Depending on the number of fibroids that are being injected (though unlikely), CPT 11901 may be used as well if seven or more fibromas are being treated during the encounter.
