Components Required for Billing for CPTs 99305/99306 or 99308/99309

Anonymous Question! Coding question for Nursing Homes - If performing assessments and screenings for neuropathy/PVD following up preventative care recommendations, can podiatrists bill 99305/99306 or 99308/99309 I am having trouble finding a detailed list of components required for these codes. Is an extensive ROS required for 99305/99306? How many systems need to be examined during our physical examination for these codes. What is required in terms of a comprehensive history and exam?

Podiatrists are able to perform assessments for established patient nursing home encounters which are 99307-99310, depending on the severity of the assessment. CPT codes, whether for the assessment or routine foot care, are not payable for podiatrists even if it’s their initial encounter with a patient. Only the physician admitting the patient to the facility would be able to bill for new patient nursing home claims under CPT codes 99304-99306.
