Is Aetna sending legitimate medicare 2021 attestations by Gmail asking for us to sign using adobe sign and to give our social security number. Or is this an identity theft scam? If question is posted please keep my name confidential.
This is definitely a scam- under no circumstances would any insurance company be asking for sensitive personal information such as a social security number. It is common for contracts or other sensitive documents to be sent by many insurances by e-mail but would never request such sensitive data in order to open the attachment. Without opening the attachment, reaching out to a provider representative at the insurance would be the best way to confirm if there are any questionable attachments. Whether it’s an individual or a department dedicated to provider contracting & credentialing, they’ll be able to verify if there is anything that needs to be done regarding network participation status. It would also be a good thing to warn them of the attempted phishing scam in case other providers were impacted.
