The outlook for 2011 crop corn and soybean production continues to deteriorate with USDA this week announcing only 57% of the corn crop is in good or excellent condition as of August 21, compared to 60% the week before and 70% a year ago. About 17% of the crop is in poor or very poor condition, compared to 15% the week before and 10% last year. The poorest corn conditions were reported in Texas, with 68% reported poor or very poor, North Carolina at 48% poor/very poor; Kansas at 41%, and Missouri at 39%. At the same time, 59% of the soybean crop is in good or very good condition, compared to 61% the week before and 64% in the previous year. USDA said about 14% of the crop is in poor or very poor condition, compared to 13% the week before and 13% last year at this time.
