Thursday, September 22, the Ohio AgriBusiness Association (OABA) testified before the House Study Committee on Tax Structure regarding the Commercial Activity Tax (CAT) and its impact on Ohio’s grain handling industry.
On behalf of OABA members, OABA President and CEO Christopher Henney commended House Speaker Batchelder and the Ohio House for recognizing that while the CAT is an improvement upon the previous commercial tax structure, it still has issues that need to be ironed out.
“At the time the CAT first passed, the General Assembly was trying to simplify Ohio’s tax plan, which is admirable,” Henney said. “But unfortunately, the CAT places the grain industry in an unusual and unequal competitive pricing structure with each other, and that is problematic.”
OABA encouraged the House committee to “level the playing field” to ensure that all stakeholders in the grain industry can remain competitive in today’s changing economic climate. OABA will continue to work with the committee on behalf of its members to make Ohio a great place to do business.
