Grain Handling Regional Safety Seminar – June 5 and 6

OABA has partnered with the National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) and the Indiana Grain and Feed Association to host a regional safety compliance seminar, which is designed to assist industry firms in complying with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations applying to the grain, grain processing, feed and feed ingredient manufacturing sectors.

The seminars will focus on the key requirements of OSHA’s grain handling safety standard [29 CFR 1910.272], including its provisions on housekeeping, confined space entry, electrical, fall protection and personal protective equipment. In addition, the first half-day of this workshop will include a presentation on how to prepare for an OSHA inspection.

Grain Grading School for Commodity Tester Certification/Recertification – June 12 and September 6

These schools, approved by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, are structured to provide Commodity Testers with certification/recertification opportunities. Individuals seeking certification will receive training in the procedures for grading corn, soybeans and wheat, as well as sampling and equipment, then will take an open-book exam consisting of 50 questions. Those seeking recertification receive the same training and sign a verification of attendance form.

The Ohio Commodity Handler Law requires all individuals grading commodities to be certified. New commodity testers must pass (80 percent) a written exam. Those currently certified must either fulfill continuing education requirements, or pass the written exam once every three years to renew their Commodity Testers Certificate.
