Registration Open for 2018 ResponsibleAg Auditor Training Course

Credentialed auditors needed to assist agribusinesses with the ResponsibleAg Certification Program

The next ResponsibleAg Auditor Training Course will be offered June 19-22, 2018, in Owensboro, KY. Registration is now open, and seats are limited to 24 for the four-day course offered by ResponsibleAg, an industry initiative launched in 2014 to help retail facilities comply with federal environmental, health, safety and security rules for safe handling and storage of fertilizer and agrichemical products. The course provides graduates with a thorough understanding of the assessment and auditing process as it relates to the areas found at retail facilities including dry fertilizer, liquid fertilizer, anhydrous ammonia, seed treater, shop, office and grounds.

The comprehensive ‘hands-on’ course is held at the Ford B. West Center for Responsible Agriculture, a former agrichemical facility retrofitted specifically for training purposes. After completing the course, attendees may apply with ResponsibleAg to become a credentialed auditor.

“Agribusinesses that store or handle fertilizer and agrichemical products must comply with a number of complex federal, environmental, health, safety and security rules,” says Tim McArdle, Brandt Consolidated, Inc., and vice chairman of ResponsibleAg. “The course prepares attendees to complete an accurate and credible audit using a 440-question checklist of federal regulatory requirements. This auditor training course is the gold standard in safety and compliance training for agribusinesses.”

The ResponsibleAg Auditor Training Course has received recognition from the Board of Environmental, Health and Safety Auditor Certifications (BEAC) based on a comprehensive evaluation of course content, training materials, course environment and instructor qualifications.

Who should become an auditor

Those interested in attending the course and becoming a credentialed auditor must have a minimum of five years experience within the agricultural inputs industry or a minimum of five years working with environmental, health, safety, security or loss control issues. Candidates also must have a basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and related regulatory agency requirements before attending the course.

Course led by industry expert

The course is led by Brian Miller, president of Miller Risk Management. Miller holds a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation, is a Certified Professional EHS Auditor and has decades of experience with auditing agricultural facilities during his career.

The course combines classroom lectures, computer lab tasks, role-play scenarios, problem-solving sessions and hands-on exercises. Group exercises in conjunction with mock auditing reinforce the learning process and help participants become familiar with the auditing process.
