At your dealership, accepting credit cards to conduct business has likely become routine. In fact, it’s so routine for most that they don’t give it much thought. However, if you have not established certain security practices with respect to credit card transactions, it could cost the dealership heavily if customer information is stolen.  A few of the implications are: lost reputation, lost revenue, fines, and even having credit card acceptance privileges revoked. That is where the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS) come in.

The primary purpose of PCI DSS is to protect everyone in the payment chain from damages resulting from the theft or loss of cardholder data. The on-going security of cardholder data is the driving objective behind all PCI DSS compliance activities. Additionally, as credit card use continues to rise, dealerships need to have clear policies and procedures for how to handle customer credit transactions in daily practices and understand not only security obligations but also the contractual obligations the dealership has with it merchant services provider.

Join OADA as we welcome the PCI experts from Schneider Downs & Company, First Commonwealth Bank and Total System Services (TSYS) to present this topic to you from all angles. By tuning into this webinar, you will learn more about the risks and obligations of accepting credit cards. The discussion will answer frequently asked questions that will help you determine your dealership’s credit card policy, including:

  • Can we place limits or restrictions on credit card usage?
  • What are the risks associated with taking credit card numbers over the telephone?
  • Can we charge customers a convenience fee?

Other specific topics include:

  • Reducing the risk of vulnerability
  • Storing data (or choosing not to store data)
  • Data retention
  • Risks associated with collecting and storing data

Throughout the webinar, we will highlight safeguards that will help protect your dealership from the risks of receiving and maintaining cardholder data as well as review various contractual considerations with a retail merchant services provider. There is a $20 connection fee for OADA members. Non-members will be charged a $50 connection fee. Register today!
