July 2021 Medicare Supplier Data Shows Minimal Change

Source: American Association for Homecare

The American Association for Homecare has been tracking home medical equipment (HME) service supplier locations for the past several years measuring the shrinking HME provider community.  The tracking sheet is now updated with July 2021 data and reveals a slight decrease in the number of locations compared to a year ago. The national association estimates there are about 9,207 traditional Medicare DMEPOS locations across the country. Their updated analysis continues to show about a 29% decrease in traditional DME supplier locations since 2013.

Ohio has seen a loss of 36% fewer HME locations since the expansion of the Medicare "competitive bidding" program in July 2013; well ahead, unfortunately, of the national average.  OAMES continues to share this information with legislators and regulators raising concerns about continued access to quality HME services which is especially critical throughout the pandemic in reducing hospital census numbers and treating patients effectively and safely at home.
