Melanie Schaffer is a clinical dietitian at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio where she provides exceptional medical nutrition therapy for our military men and women, their families, and our veterans. Although her area of expertise and passion is eating disorders, she provides nutrition education for dialysis, heart disease, obesity, pediatrics, geriatrics, GI, and cancer- just to name a few areas! She is currently the co-leader for the base's Body Shop program which works with families in a multidisciplinary class to help children and adolescents at risk for health complications from obesity form healthier lifestyle behaviors. She firmly believes dietitians are not just educators, but also nutrition therapists that must utilize excellent motivational interviewing and listening skills to help patients move forward towards their goals.
