Top | | Leaders from OAPA and Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses recently came together to investigate a critical issue affecting healthcare delivery in the state. A major health insurance company had enacted a policy change that would eliminate PAs as recognized primary care providers (PCPs) in several hospitals across Ohio. Such a move would have restricted patients’ access to timely, high-quality care and undermined the pivotal role of PAs in primary care. OAPA worked closely with various stakeholders at the state and national level as well as health system leaders. These efforts proved successful. The insurer reconsidered its proposed policy, preserving the ability of PAs to serve as PCPs. This victory reinforces the importance of advocating for policies that protect access to care and support a diverse and capable healthcare workforce. |
