Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to diagnose and treat mental illness in collaboration as necessary with a designated Psychiatrist. Reports to Chief Clinical Services Officer.

Minimum Qualification: Licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of Ohio in good standing. One year of experience working with individuals who have been diagnosed with a chronic mental illness is required. The employee must possess exceptional oral and written communications skills. Basic computer skills required, including familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office. The employee must be able to conduct business in a professional manner. She or he must understand and advocate for consumer rights, confidentiality, health and safety issues. Must exhibit cultural sensitivity. Must be able to move safely in a variety of work situations. Hearing and speech capabilities must be adequate for spoken conversation. Bilingual abilities (especially, Spanish and English) are not required, but a great advantage for this position. Favorable references and/or evaluations.

Job Duties/Skills:

•Manage the comprehensive psychiatric care for patients in assigned clinical areas under the oversight of the respective collaborating/supervising physician and per respective scope of practice.

•Assesses patient health by interviewing, physical examinations, and obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories. Prescribes psychotropic medications.

•Facilitates communication with Primary Care Providers outside of the agency when laboratory abnormalities are discovered.

•Documents patient care services via EMR.

•Assists with implementing medical treatment and tracking procedures.

•Meets regularly with collaborating psychiatrist to effectively communicate about open cases.

•Collaborates actively with patient’s other therapists or case managers to ensure best care and common treatment goals.

•Completes all documentation as required by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and the Nord Center

•Contributes to team effort by achieving required productivity expectations.

•Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.

•Reacts to change and stress productively.

•Maintains regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

•Gets along with others and works as a team.

•Exhibits the knowledge, skills, abilities, and minimum requirements listed in this Position Description.

•Other duties as assigned.

•Participates in program and agency meetings and work projects as requested.

•Assists with making referrals to other agencies, as requested by primary provider of service.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: In order to perform the essential functions of this job, after an orientation period, the employee must possess the following: a working knowledge of Nord Center Policy and Procedures, including sensitivity and adherence to clients’ rights, confidentiality, and health and safety issues. The employee must exhibit sensitivity to different cultures. This employee must be up to date on all certifications, continuing education, and registration with the state nursing board which allows prescription authority under supervision in the state of Ohio.

Working Conditions: The work is mainly provided in an office setting, although travel may be required dependent upon services contracted through other agencies such as medical, rehabilitation, or correctional settings. Because of the variety of environments and physical conditions that will be encountered, this individual must be able to successfully interact and navigate in all types of facilities and weather conditions. This individual may periodically be required to lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds. Must be able to physically interact with client and others in emergency situations to prevent harm to client and others. The individual in this position must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Due to the extensive computer work this individual must be able to sit for extended periods of time and operate required equipment.
