2011 Philanthropic Cause - Community Care Clinic

OAPA annually awards $1000 to a worthy cause in Ohio.  OAPA members submitted applications that were reviewed by the Board.  This year the Board chose the Community Care Clinic.

The Community Care Clinic (CCC) is a student organization at the University of Toledo Health Science Campus that facilitates cooperative learning between medical students and physician assistant students who volunteer their time to provide health care to the underserved, underinsured, or uninsured individuals in theToledo community.  The CCC provides services to people that have nowhere else to turn for their health care needs and makes a difference to the people in the community.

Through participation in the CCC, students volunteer at two sites, Mildred Bayer Clinic and Perrysburg Heights Community Center.  Students are able to become proficient at performing histories and physicals, developing their skills of presenting patients to the attending physician/nurse practitioner/physician assistant, and writing SOAP notes.  More importantly, students are able to provide support to the patients medically, emotionally, or educationally.
